January 26, 2026: Winter Storm Fern - Freight & Parcel Network Impacts
Winter Storm Fern Impacts U.S. Service
Severe winter weather associated with Winter Storm Fern is impacting shipping services across parts of the United States, resulting in potential delays.
FTL and LTL:
Snow, ice and hazardous road conditions across the Midwestern, Southern and Northeastern U.S. may cause transit delays. These impacts could continue as conditions improve and carrier terminals work through backlogs. Customers are advised to check the website of the carrier they are shipping with for the latest information on terminal closures and limited service in affected areas.
UPS:
UPS services in the affected regions are operating as conditions permit; however, delays are possible. Additional disruptions are expected within the UPS air network due to severe winter weather impacting the Louisville, KY air hub. Even if your shipment's origin or destination is not directly affected, weather-related disruptions elsewhere in the network may delay package movement. UPS is prioritizing employee safety while activating contingency plans to minimize service impacts. Please note that the UPS Service Guarantee does not apply to shipments affected by this event.

October 3, 2025: Update on U.S. Import De Minimis Exemption Suspension
Effective August 29, 2025, the de minimis exemption for low-value shipments (under $800 USD) to the U.S. has been suspended, meaning all U.S. imports, regardless of value, origin, or entry mode, will be subject to applicable U.S. duties and taxes that may be charged to the receiver of the goods if the shipper did not prepay these fees in advance.
This change has resulted in a substantial rise of formal customs clearances, which has led to increased processing times and delays particularly for shipments that require input from other government agencies like FDA eligible shipments.
It is now also mandatory for all shipments to the U.S. to include information pertaining to the country-of-origin for each commodity on your commercial invoices when creating your shipment.
Actions to Take:
- Ensure complete and accurate commercial invoice information, including product details, country-of-origin, HTSUS code, quantity, and value.
- Include information pertaining to the country-of-origin for each commodity on your commercial invoices when creating your shipment.
- For shipments requiring formal entries, provide an Importer Tax ID with EIN or SSN.
- Include the recipient's email and contact information for duty and tax collection.
